Serena and I have been planning the collaboration for a few months now. Apparently, both of us were from the same school and course (just a different semester) and have NEVER bumped into each other.
It's amazing how I think my MCM days are behind me and it keeps creeping up in unexpectedly, in a good way too.
We've discussed and came up with a few themes but like most plans, rarely surface (this time, because of the bad weather). So, the contingency plan was to forgo pretty backdrops and just work with the products. Pretty happy with the results, the gloomy weather was really a blessing in disguise. The props and cakes have so many angles, harsh sunlight would have created ugly shadows.
So here are my top 4 shots!
(From top left to right - Carrot Cake, Name card / Tea cup, Red velvet and pretty pastel rainbow cake)
The carrot cake was my favourite and really set the mood of the shoot. Aesthetically, Serena's cakes weren't perfect but that's what makes them so special. There's a very raw / rustic feel to her work and that really appealed to me. Gives me a warrrrrrm fuzzy feeling heh :)
She was pretty excited and brought a mini luggage bag of props and we used everything! Pretty smart of her to bring a luggage bag. I'm considering it for shoots now, especially for model shoots and when I lug around tonnes of make up and camera equipment
Some test shots from the shoot. It was my first time at the Marina Barrage and I had no clue how it looked like. Hoped to capture the pretty sky scrappers but didn't know about the concrete seats. Plus the weather was bad se.o we went down to the first floor
A piece of the big mess we made. Surprisingly, there were a lot of school tours, cyclists and people on a week day. It was nice, windy day. Perfect for a shoot.
I'm so grateful for all the opportunity and glad that being thick-skinned pays off. There are a few more projects coming up. Hopefully, things pan out nicely! Personally, it's easy to type out feeling and thoughts but it's such a pain in the ass to capture moments. I'd like to improve in that area and learn to find the right words.
